Jose Mourinho will manage Real Madrid against Barcelona on Sunday, aiming to reduce the league deficit from six points to three. The Portuguese manager faces the Catalan side for the 18th time as a Real Madrid manager, seeking to reverse a trend in which his team has lost six of the last seven meetings between the two clubs.

The stakes for the away side are high. Real Madrid has won four consecutive matches, a run that provides momentum heading into the fixture. A victory would cut the gap to Barcelona in half. By contrast, the home side currently holds a six-point lead in La Liga. Barcelona is looking to extend that advantage to nine points with a win.

Barcelona entered the match week with a setback. Hansi Flick’s team suffered its first defeat of the season on Tuesday, dropping a 4-2 match to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. Flick used the loss to identify areas for improvement. "We analysed this game. We did many things really good, but we saw some situations where we have to improve," Flick said.

Mourinho’s appointment draws immediate attention. Florentino Perez originally hired the 63-year-old in 2010 to challenge Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona. That era defined some of the most intense encounters in the rivalry’s modern history. Cameras at Camp Nou will focus on Mourinho as he attempts to bring the La Liga title back to the Bernabeu for a second time.

Flick acknowledged the confidence arriving with the visitors. "When you’re managing teams on this level for so many years and you always have success, it’s about quality," Flick said. He noted that his squad is in an initial phase of development, having been together for only about two months. He argued that comparing his team to more established sides is unfair during this learning period.

Both managers described the upcoming fixture as unique. Flick called it the best match in their sport, noting that its importance goes beyond the three points on the line. Mourinho agreed, stating that previous form has no influence on the result. "El Clasico is unique. Normally, the football world stops to watch it," Mourinho said.

The match is scheduled for Sunday at Camp Nou. Barcelona will look to build on its recent league form, while Real Madrid seeks to break its recent losing streak in the rivalry. The outcome will directly alter the top of the La Liga standings.
