Kenneth Walker slipped on an eggshell-colored suit coat and adjusted his brown-rimmed glasses in the Kansas City Chiefs locker room. He motioned to reporters that he was ready to speak after the team’s 20-3 road loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night.

Walker’s demeanor was tense as he addressed the media. When asked to describe the team’s effort, he answered with a single word: "Terrible." He paused before adding that the unit could improve on "Everything." The frustration was palpable for a player who had just fallen to the team that drafted him.

The matchup carried personal weight for Walker, who previously shared a timeshare role in Seattle. He became the team's primary back due to injuries in the previous season and earned Super Bowl MVP honors during the playoffs. The Seahawks did not offer him a contract before free agency, and he signed with Kansas City, which promised to feature him as the lead back.

Ahead of the game, Walker was on a pace to rush for 2,000 yards in the season. He had helped lead the Chiefs to a 5-0 start. On Sunday, however, Seattle’s defense limited his explosive runs. He finished with 14 carries for 36 yards.

Quarterback Patrick Mahomes acknowledged the offensive struggles during his postgame news conference. He noted that the team failed to utilize play-action passes to counter Seattle’s focus on stopping the run. The Chiefs’ passing game was disjointed, compounded by injuries to both starting tackles and two top receivers. Mahomes admitted his footwork was off in the first half as he drifted out of clean pockets.

The performance marked a historic low for the Chiefs offense under Mahomes. Per the NFL’s Next Gen Stats, it was only the second full game in Mahomes' 10-year career where the Chiefs did not score a touchdown. The team recorded 11 first downs, the lowest total in a Mahomes start, and tied for the fewest points scored.

Defensively, the Seahawks converted 11 of their 16 third-down attempts. This effort tied for their second-most successes in a game since tracking began in 1991. Special teams also struggled, as kicker Harrison Butker missed two field goal attempts, one short and one wide right.

Coach Andy Reid took full responsibility for the loss, stating that all three phases of the game required improvement. Walker, who had won his previous 15 consecutive games, left the field without shaking hands with former teammates. He summarized the night by saying, "They play hard, and they outplayed us."
