The NFC East remains a division of unexpected fragility, allowing both contenders to stay alive despite recent slumps. The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles meet Monday night in Philadelphia, with both squads sitting at 2-4. Each team seeks a path back into the divisional race, a goal that remains plausible given the current lack of dominance from the group's leaders.

The context for this matchup is historically unusual. The New York Giants hold the division lead at 3-2-1, with the Cowboys and Eagles trailing closely. Over the last two weeks, every team in the division played twice without securing a single win. This marks the first instance of such a collective dry spell since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. The Eagles are currently on a four-game losing streak, their first of that length since 2020, which preceded the arrival of coach Nick Sirianni.

Philadelphia's offensive struggles extend beyond the quarterback position. The team has managed only 58 points across their four recent losses. Quarterback Jalen Hurts is on injured reserve due to blood clots and is expected to miss the remainder of the season. Tanner McKee, who spent his first two NFL seasons as a backup, now leads the offense. His first meaningful start came last week against Carolina, following just two days of first-team practice. This week, he has a full week to prepare with first-year offensive coordinator Sean Mannion. McKee stated that he feels he has a good preparation process and plans to collaborate more with the coaching staff rather than working alone.

The Eagles' running game faces additional hurdles. Saquon Barkley has missed more than two games with a hamstring injury, though a return remains possible. Backups Will Shipley and Tank Bigsby are also injured. Carson Steele, signed from the practice squad last week, suffered a shoulder injury against Carolina. Dameon Pierce was the only running back to carry the ball in that game, gaining 35 yards. The Cowboys have allowed 4.7 yards per carry this season, presenting a potential exploit for Philadelphia if they can find healthy legs.

Dallas faces its own challenges, ranking 30th in the league on defense under first-year coordinator Christian Parker. Offensively, the Cowboys scored only 29 points combined in their last two losses, including a 23-13 defeat to Green Bay last week. They have scored fewer than 20 points in consecutive Dak Prescott starts for the first time since 2019. Owner Jerry Jones indicated at the NFL's annual fall meeting on Wednesday that he does not expect further coaching changes this season. He described the recent hiring of Mike Pettine as defensive assistant as strategic and unique.

Individual milestones are in play for key players. Javonte Williams is the second Cowboys player with seven rushing touchdowns through the first six games, following Emmitt Smith in 1994 and 1995. CeeDee Lamb has 48 receptions, third in the NFL and the most in franchise history through six games, while approaching 8,000 career receiving yards. Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert needs one catch to move into third place on the franchise's career receptions list. Dallas is favored by 4 points and leads the all-time series 72-58. Kickoff is at 7:15 p.m. CST on ESPN. The Eagles play Washington on Nov. 1 before hosting the Giants, a stretch that will determine if their season can still be salvaged.
