UNC Charlotte's Career Center is launching a month-long series of career workshops for current students, with the first events scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Nov. 3. The initiative, titled Alumni Takeover Month, invites graduates from various industries to share their professional experiences and offer direct feedback on student resumes.
The center listed 25 specific events in its schedule for the month. These sessions are designed to help students understand the transition from academic life to professional work. The program includes a mix of in-person drop-ins and virtual presentations, all aimed at providing practical advice for job searches and interviews.
The first in-person activity is a resume review session led by Jim Mixson. It is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Career Center. Students can drop in without an appointment to receive help from Mixson. The center will continue to host similar resume clinics throughout November.
Further resume drop-ins are scheduled with Samantha Aguilar on Wednesday, Nov. 4, and Olivia Packer on Thursday, Nov. 5. Shania Johnson will host a session on Tuesday, Nov. 10, while Andre Best takes over on Wednesday, Nov. 11. Jonathan Parcell is set to lead the final resume clinic on Thursday, Nov. 12. All these in-person events will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The virtual component of the month focuses on what the university calls A Day in the Life sessions. These Zoom meetings feature alumni discussing specific job roles. Topics range from higher education program directors and engineering managers to data management senior managers and social science librarians. The first virtual session is set for Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 1:15 p.m., focusing on a program director in higher education.
Additional virtual panels cover roles such as expanded impact teachers, academic advisors, and revenue operations specialists. Later in the month, sessions will address careers in sales data analysis for consumer packaged goods, digital marketing consulting, and workforce development. One session on Tuesday, Nov. 17, will feature a university advancement professional, a topic also covered in a separate session on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
The schedule also includes four career meet-ups focused on job search tactics. These virtual events will cover the use of artificial intelligence in applications, getting started in job searches, and preparing for first professional interviews. A final session on Wednesday, Nov. 18, will address interviewing strategies for both introverts and extroverts. The series concludes with these targeted workshops before the end of the month.
