A medical team in Kyiv found itself in the middle of a missile attack while returning to base. On the evening of October 26, Russian forces launched strikes on the capital. A 46-year-old woman died in the attacks, and 15 others sustained injuries.
The ambulance crew had just completed a patient call when the first explosion hit nearby. The shockwave broke the windows of their vehicle. Both team members, a paramedic and an emergency medical technician, were struck by the blast.
Hearing a second explosion, the two men took cover under their car. The Kyiv Centre of Emergency Medical Care and Disaster Medicine described the vehicle as a shelter that protected them during the subsequent missile impact.
The 49-year-old paramedic suffered a blunt chest injury, a cut on his left hand, and acoustic barotrauma. His 42-year-old colleague sustained explosive trauma. Despite these injuries, the paramedic remained at the impact site to help other victims.
The Kyiv City State Administration's Department of Health acknowledged the difficulty of the work. The department stated that safety remains a priority for emergency workers who operate in dangerous conditions daily. Officials wished both men a quick recovery.
Rescue workers also recovered two dogs from the attack zone. One animal was pulled from the rubble of a damaged building. Both medics were transported to a hospital for treatment.
The missile strike continued into the night of October 27. The attack is part of a series of strikes that have targeted Kyiv in recent weeks. Emergency services continue to assess the damage in the affected districts.
