The Los Angeles Rams went 0 for 5 on first downs in their opening half, trailing 9-3 with the clock winding down, before mounting a 24-9 comeback against the winless Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

This marked the first time in the career of head coach Sean McVay that his team failed to convert a single first down in its first five offensive possessions.

The Rams, who finished at 4-4, gained only 24 yards in those opening 15 plays. They did not secure a first down until a 40-yard pass to Tutu Atwell with the score already 9-3.

Kyren Williams then ran for a touchdown with 19 seconds remaining in the first half, cutting the deficit to three points.

Matthew Stafford finished the game with 157 passing yards and one touchdown. Puka Nacua caught 11 passes for 80 yards and a score.

The Rams converted their first-half struggles into three consecutive touchdown drives after the break. Blake Corum rushed for 73 yards and a 23-yard score, while Nacua added an 18-yard receiving touchdown late in the third quarter.

The victory ended a five-drive skid and gave the Rams their second win in a row, a feat they had not accomplished earlier this season.

On the other side of the field, the Chargers dropped to 0-7, extending the longest losing start in franchise history since 2000.

Quarterback Justin Herbert passed for 257 yards but threw two interceptions. The Chargers, returning from a bye week, managed 295 offensive yards under play-caller Mike McDaniel.

Defensive back Quentin Lake returned a pick-six setup by sacking Herbert's short pass and returning it 45 yards to set up the Rams' early field goal.

The game featured early interceptions from both offenses, reflecting a lack of rhythm for two teams that share a stadium but have not developed a traditional rivalry despite their geographic proximity.

Injuries affected both rosters during the contest. Chargers linebacker Daiyan Henley suffered a shoulder issue in the first quarter but returned to the field. Safety Derwin James, dealing with a hamstring injury, was placed on injured reserve on Saturday and missed his fourth consecutive game. Rams cornerback Jaylen Watson exited the game early in the second half with a shoulder injury and did not return, marking his second absence this season due to shoulder issues. Trent McDuffie also left with a back injury after returning from a two-game absence with a groin problem.
