Pueblo residents can expect a high of 80 degrees today, October 23, before a cold front slashes temperatures by 30 degrees over the next 48 hours. The weather shift marks the end of a warm stretch for the city. Saturday's high will only reach the 50s.
The front is moving in from the west. It will bring more clouds and increase the chance of rain. In Pueblo, the likelihood of precipitation today is between 10% and 20%. That number will rise significantly during the weekend. The system is also expected to generate storms farther south and along the eastern side of Interstate 25.
The temperature drop will be sharp. After a morning in the 50s, afternoon sun will warm the city to 80 degrees. By Saturday morning, the front will have passed through. Highs will fall into the 50s. The low for the weekend will also drop, with Friday's low set at 52 degrees.
Surrounding towns face similar conditions. Colorado Springs is forecast to hit 73 degrees today with a low of 47. Canon City has a 75-degree high and a 49-degree low, with a 20% to 30% chance of afternoon showers. Woodland Park will see a high of 58 and a low of 39. The Tri-Lakes area, including Monument, is expected to reach 69 degrees before dropping to the 50s on Saturday.
Farther south, Walsenburg and Trinidad are set for their warmest days of the next seven days. Walsenburg will reach 73 degrees and Trinidad 74 degrees. Both towns will see lows of 49 degrees. Their weekend highs will also fall into the 50s. The eastern plains may see thunderstorms return by Friday evening after a sunny start. Afternoon temperatures there will sit in the 70s and 80s.
Mountain areas will stay cooler with highs in the 60s and lows in the 30s. Lingering moisture and flooding remain concerns in southwestern Colorado, where water levels may take time to recede. The next week looks calmer. Sunshine and partly cloudy skies are expected, with temperatures gradually warming into the 60s. The preliminary Halloween outlook calls for dry weather and temperatures in the 50s and 60s.
