Analysts Hike SpaceX Targets After Q3 Beat

Following a strong third-quarter report and forward guidance that far outpaced forecasts, major banks revised their valuation estimates for the aerospace firm sharply upward.

On October 21, multiple financial institutions immediately revised their valuation estimates for SpaceX (NASDAQ: SPCX) significantly higher, reflecting the company's ability to surpass earnings expectations. This upward revision in analyst sentiment follows a financial report released after the close of trading on October 20. Consequently, the stock experienced a surge of approximately 8 percent in premarket activity on October 21, moving from its previous closing price of $147.79.

The financial data released on October 20 indicates a period of rapid expansion. The company reported revenue of $14.6 billion, representing a 161 percent increase compared to the same quarter last year. This figure exceeded the consensus estimate of approximately $12.7 billion. Additionally, the company recorded a net profit of $4.4 billion, a recovery from a loss in the prior year, while adjusted EBITDA reached $8.8 billion.

The primary driver behind the surge in analyst price targets was the company's internal forecast for the upcoming period. During the earnings call, CEO Elon Musk and CFO Bret Johnsen provided revenue guidance for the first quarter of 2027 ranging from $33 billion to $37 billion. This projection significantly exceeds the approximately $22 billion that analysts had previously modeled. Furthermore, the company announced plans for capital expenditures between $35 billion and $40 billion in the fourth quarter, specifically targeting the expansion of artificial intelligence compute infrastructure.

Analysts have raised their price targets in response to the company's guidance regarding its artificial intelligence capabilities. The company's Super Intelligence division is now its largest revenue contributor, generating roughly $7.6 billion, an increase of nearly 830 percent year-over-year. Management outlined a plan to reach 2.5 to 3 gigawatts of nameplate compute capacity by the end of the year, with a long-term goal of 13 gigawatts or more by the end of 2027. Musk stated that there is relentless demand from hyperscalers and other customers, with compute pricing supporting payback periods of less than a year.

The Connectivity segment also contributed to the positive sentiment, delivering $5.2 billion in revenue. This growth was supported by strong subscriber additions, which increased the consumer base to 13.6 million for Starlink. Additional factors cited by analysts include recent milestones regarding Starship's orbital success and V3 satellite deployment, as well as the rapid adoption of Grok Bot.

JPMorgan issued the most aggressive adjustment, more than doubling its target to $500 from a previous $240, while maintaining an Overweight rating. Cantor Fitzgerald raised its target to $345 from $246 with an Overweight rating, while Barclays moved its target to $300 from $254, also with an Overweight rating.

Citi increased its target to $240 from $200, and UBS moved to $230 from $210, both maintaining Buy ratings. TD Cowen raised its target to $224 from $200 with a Buy rating. Morgan Stanley held an Overweight rating with a $300 target. Wells Fargo adjusted its target to $274 from $214, and Clear Street raised its target to $248 from $217.

These adjustments reflect a broader consensus among financial analysts regarding the company's trajectory across launch, connectivity, and the Super Intelligence business. While elevated spending remains a point of focus for the market, the consensus has shifted to reflect greater conviction in the company's long-term growth potential. During the call, the company also discussed the formation of special committees to explore a possible combination with Tesla.
